Production Blog: It's Time to Film! - Commercial
Hello, so the day to film for my commercial finally arrived. On a Saturday me and my group went to Holiday Park to start our filming process. We already had a vision of what we wanted for our commercial since we created a storyboard beforehand. I met with my group at around one in the afternoon and started filming. My brother also came along throughout the filming production since we needed another person to hold the camera at times since my group was only two members and the film at times had two characters (me and my group member). Our first scene was an establishing shot which only took a couple minutes to film. Next, we filmed other scenes with just the soccer player which included them running across the field with a soccer ball and as well we had a focusing shot of the soccer player about to kick the soccer ball to the goal net. The next scene that we did took at least fifteen minutes since we kept taking retakes after retakes. The scene was the goalkeeper, which was me, and I had to catch the soccer ball after the soccer player free kicked it. While filming this scene however, I would sometimes not be able to predict where the soccer ball was going, and therefore couldn’t block it. These are just some of the scenes that I did when filming with my group, however some scenes took longer than others such as the scene stated before where I had to catch and block a soccer ball that was kicked by the soccer player. Throughout the filming process, I really enjoyed it since I was able to learn different techniques on how filming is actually used in commercials that I view in multiple instances. When filming, I didn’t always stick to what we had planned in our storyboard. This, however, wasn’t a bad thing since I realized these changes enhanced our commercials’ fluency and quality. For example, we were planning for the commercial to end with a Más+ bottle zooming in slightly, focusing on the product and the wonders it did. It was going to be a very simple scene that I thought was going to take a minute or two to film. However, my partner thought of a new idea for how to end the commercial. Instead of filming the original idea we had, my partner came up with creating a cool effect where we roll the soccer ball that we used in the film, for it to hit the Más+ bottle and for it to perfectly land sideways on the ground where you can read Más+ by Messi, and then the commercial ends from there. I thought this was an amazing idea and I understood the creativity that my partner was trying to implement into our commercial that we hadn’t thought of before. So, we tried filming this scene and eventually it worked perfectly how we wanted, however it took multiple tries and more time than I had expected to spend on the final scene of the commercial. There were also other scenes that we did throughout our commercial that was changed by either myself or my partner that was different than what we had planned, however we listened to each other's input on how we can slightly change the scene and add our own creativity to still display the same message of the Más+ product throughout the commercial. In the end, we finished filming our scenes for our commercial that same day and I felt that as a group, we did a very good job of planning, coordinating, and finally executing this commercial by completing the filming process and I’m very excited to finish the final product.
