Production Blog: Editing Time! - Commercial
Hello, so we finally came to the part where we put everything together. Since my group ended up filming on my phone, I had all the video scenes and clips that were filmed. At the end of filming our commercial, there were 90 videos! Now obviously I won’t be able to fit all 90 videos. As well, a lot of these videos are repeats of the same scene trying to be perfected. So, the application that I used with my group to edit the video was CapCut. This is an application that can be downloaded simply on your phone that allows you to edit videos and clips. I found it really useful since it was very accessible and quite easy to learn and maneuver. As well, this application had no costs and was free to an extent that provided me all the materials I needed for my editing process for the commercial. The first step I took was input the first scene that I wanted with my group, which was the establishing shot. From there I just kept adding on the scenes that would match up chronically after that. There were some scenes that I was conflicted on which scene looked better even though they were relatively the same, however it was eventually resolved. After inputting all the videos without cutting any of it, I had around 70-90 seconds worth of a commercial. This was however without any cutting or actual editing to the video itself. So, I later cut the videos to exactly the right duration where it had a fluent transition to the plot from one scene to another. After doing all this however, I still had around 35-37 seconds, which was 5-7 seconds too much. So, there were some parts in the video where I edited to make it a little bit sped up, which not only decreased the quantity of the video, however I realized it somewhat made the commercial smoother and even enhanced it. One example is the 2 scenes where the camera zooms in on the Más+ bottle that the soccer player is drinking, and then the camera zooms out of the Más+ bottle and it shows the transformation the drink had on the soccer player. I realized that this scene took quite a bit of time, regarding the part where the camera zooms in and zooms out. So, to make it more fast paced, I sped it up to make the scene faster, and as well smoother, overall making it fit well in the commercial. For editing transitions, I realized that it wasn’t really necessary to add transitions throughout the video since it wouldn’t enhance the quality of a sports drink commercial much. However, I added a fade out effect very briefly at the end of the commercial to show and represent the end of the video. Today, I am planning to finish the editing process with my group by potentially adding credits to the video and potentially music in the background. I am very excited to finish these final touches and show our final product of the Más+ by Messi sports drink commercial.
