Title Research: The Game

      Title Research: The Game

The Title Research was conducted on: Art of the Titles Website

  • What titles are displayed during the opening sequences?

  • The titles displayed in the opening sequences of The Game have the movie title, the name of the film studio, and the name of the production company. These titles are displayed one after another, however they are in a background of a set of black pieces to a puzzle and then break apart and goes to the next puzzle set with the next title. These titles in the opening sequence set a dark tone with black puzzles dissolving, at the same time representing a game of a puzzle.

  • What images are prioritized in the opening sequence?

  • The images prioritized in the opening sequence of The Game are firstly the logo of the film studio. Next there are black pieces to a puzzle dissolving one after another. An old film is then displayed, showing memories and even nostalgia to the plot. This short film highlights what appears to be a businessman, along with children running around and having fun at a party. At the end, a boy that is standing aside the businessman is left by themself, later comforted by a female individual. Lastly, this short nostalgic film is cut off going from the young boy's face to the character himself in the present day.

  • How does the film establish a feeling of the genre from the outset

The film The Game creates a feeling of thriller by establishing elements from the outset. The music that is at the outset is mysterious and suspenseful which may create tension in the audience. There is a short film of a recollection of memories of the main character from his childhood, with a series of events occurring that don’t completely make sense to the audience. However, these events create a mysterious ambience with the music and the images making contribution to the mood, making the audience want to watch more to get an understanding of what these images may represent. The outset ends with the main character in the present day, which shows that the audience might be getting a better understanding of his past and what he has been through, as the movie goes on, creating the establishment of the genre, thriller.
